Final Exhibition Presentation and Artist Statement
Artist Statement OLIVIA CHARLES Misplaced 2025 Mixed Media Olivia has explored the theme of Media Representation and how an individual’s identity can be shaped based on the unrealistic expectations media withholds. The artist wanted to look at the idea that media doesn’t reflect reality, but shapes it, whilst leaving out those who don’t fit the ideal mould. Olivia used screen printing to add the image, with text raising the question on who is holding the power to control and define others. Phrases such as ‘who controls the lens’, ‘I don’t see me’ and ‘they choose what you see’ challenges you to reflect on mainstream media and the absence of diversity, since there is an overall expectation where everyone should be the same.
